Should the school uniform be abolished?

Some people say that the school uniform should be abolished because it removes their right to choose what they want to wear for the day. However, I disagree because the school uniform removes social barriers that might occur if people wear their own clothes to school. The school uniform the students are wearing would also instill in them pride of their school which would make them more disciplined when in public places or even when in the school.

The school uniform is very useful in making sure that social barriers that involve the students’ dressing does not occur because when everyone wears the school uniform there would be no distinction between the people who can afford good clothes and people who cannot afford good clothes or do not want to buy them. If everyone came to school wearing their own clothes, those who cannot keep up with the fashion in the school would be teased or insulted because a majority of the school would be wearing better clothes than them. Since there would be social tension with the students, lessons would be less productive because it would be harder to hold class discussions or have them do group work.

Wearing a school uniform removes the pressure of having to decide what to clothes to wear to school each day which allows the student to concentrate more on his studies or homework because if the school was to allow the students to wear their own clothes to school each day, when a student reaches home he would first try to find suitable clothes to wear for the next day due to the pressure of his peers wearing their best clothes. This would limit the amount of time actually spent on the student carrying out productive activities, not necessarily only academic work.
When wearing a school uniform, most students take more care to behave appropriately while in public places such as shopping malls or public libraries. This shows that the students would have more self-discipline while wearing their school uniform because they do not want to give their school a bad reputation for students who cannot behave themselves properly in public.

Even though people say that forcing students to wear a school uniform takes away their right to choose their own clothing, it is very clear that the school uniform has many benefits to the students by reducing peer pressure on choosing the best clothes to wear to school and allows him to devote his time to other activities. Forcing the students to wear the school uniform also removes social barriers that would otherwise occur if everyone wore their own clothes. Making students wear the school uniform benefits the school as well because when wearing the school uniform in public, students would have more self-discipline which would give the school a good reputation.

Overall, I think that making students wear the school uniforms benefits both parties-the school and the students making it a win-win situation even some people do not see it that way and that forcing students to wear the school uniform should not be abolished.

Descriptive paragraph

He stood on the edge of a broken window, looking out over the city. Beads of sweat rolled down his head as he watched the horizon fearing an attack from the enemy when they were unprepared. His comrade was standing beside him and he took comfort in knowing that he would not be alone on this hot and humid night watch. He breathed in a lungful of dusty air and licked his cracked lips in an attempt to keep them moist. Wishing that the supply of water was not so low, he stayed his hand not wanting to gulp his water down now. The remaining light disappeared quickly as the Sun seemingly sank into the ground and the two soldiers prepared themselves for a long night.

My LA short story

This is my LA short story that i have written. Hope you enjoy it^^

Isaac tried to will the vehicles in front of him to move forward so that he could reach home as fast as possible but the traffic jam would not heed his silent pleas and Isaac’s car was a still as a rock. The middle-aged man had missed five of his son’s birthday parties consecutively year after year. His colleagues and wife told him that it was not his fault, that as a doctor his son could not expect him to be there every time he was wanted. But he could not ignore the shame and sadness he felt when he arrived home and his son ignored him, so bitter was he at Isaac for not being there to support and guide him like Isaac should have done. This time though, he had promised his now twelve year old son and himself that he would definitely turn up for his son’s birthday this year.

Now, it seemed that he would be stuck at this clogged up road filled with cars for so long till when he arrived home all the guests would have left and his poor son would be in his room sleeping having cried himself to sleep from the disappointment. The row of cars started to inch forward slightly and Isaac could see the cause of all his frustration. There were two cars that had collided with each other and were lying across Serangoon’s main road in a tangled heap of scrap metal with bits of glass strewn around all over the place. Two policemen were cordoning off the site and searching the heap of metal blocking the road to find if there were any other people still inside the car wreck.

Isaac realized that he could help the injured people who had survived the initial accident but were dying due to their injuries. He clambered out of his car and squeezed his way through the cars to where the accident had occurred. As he neared the car accident Isaac saw the policemen move to prevent him from running past them. Isaac quickly explained that he was a doctor, the words spilling out of his mouth so quickly that the policemen had to ask him to repeat everything. With everything sorted out, Isaac approached the victims that were laid out a few feet away from the metal heap. The woman was peppered with tiny shards of broken glass. Those were not serious but would have to be tended to at a later time. The man however, was covered with blood, some of which had congealed to form a sickening red crust over the man’s body. Isaac quickly checked the man’s pulse by putting his thumb on the wrist. To his dismay, the pulse was faint and getting fainter as the seconds ticked by. Isaac sent a policeman running to his car to retrieve his first-aid kit.

Isaac requested for a roll of linen cloth from the returning policeman to be used as makeshift bandage for the long gash he had discovered on the man’s upper torso. By a stroke of luck, it was not too deep or the man would have long died from the loss of blood. He knew that the wound was definitely the cause of all the blood so he had to act quickly. Isaac hastily moved to bandage up the wound as tightly as possibly so as to restrict blood flow to that section of his chest. After finishing the task, he felt for a pulse again but to his dismay he found the pulse slowing down and stopping. Immediately he commenced CPR to keep the man alive. One policeman had also learned CPR and offered to help when Isaac’s arms began to tire. They would then keep rotating to allow the other to recover for a period of time.

Isaac took a break after rotating with the policeman six times sitting down on the grimy road, his arms drooping with exhaustion. When his eyes fell on the unknown man, Isaac noticed that if all the blood and dirt on the man was removed, the man would resemble him! Isaac imagined himself in the victim’s place and shuddered. What if he had been the car crash victim rather than the man he was helping? He probably would have died. His son would never have seen him again and Isaac would never attend one of his son’s birthdays. Maybe the man could have been rushing home to attend his son’s birthday as well. With that thought in Isaac’s head he continued the CPR with renewed vigor. This extra energy helped Isaac continued the tiring CPR till help arrived in the form of an ambulance and its wailing sirens weaving its way through the space the cars made for it. Two paramedics rushed out to take over and Isaac stumbled backwards and sat down hard on the ground relieved to take a break after…how long had it been? Isaac risked a glance at his watch and sighed when he saw the time. He had missed his son’s birthday, again, and would have to find some way to make it up to him so that his son would not end up openly hating him.

He went into the ambulance to wash the blood of the man and the grime of the road of his tired hands. The man was brought into the ambulance and a paramedic stood over him preparing to shock the man’s heart back to life. Isaac watched panic filling him up as he watched five unsuccessful attempts of revival. The initial anxiety faded away when the paramedic reported that he had felt a pulse. Isaac realized his pulse was racing and he let out a breath that he did not realize he had been holding. The ambulance put the woman on a stretcher and started up before attempting to squeeze through the tight car formations in an effort to reach the nearest hospital.

When the policeman and Isaac had been doing CPR, the other policeman had help Isaac move his car along so he would not block what tiny traffic flow was left. A weary but satisfied trudged back to his car and sank into the soft leather seat with a small sigh of pleasure. After squatting and doing CPR for so long, even sitting down felt like a luxury. While waiting for the jam to ease, he thought about how he would explain it to his young son that though he had been delayed and missed his son’s birthday party, he had saved a man that like him was a middle-aged man, that like him mostly likely had a son, and like him would also be rushing home on a specific day to celebrate his son’s birthday. But he was disillusioning himself. His son would not be willing to hear any explanation. All he wanted was that his father turned up at just one of his birthday parties, and this year, Isaac had not done that.

The three points of view

In this blog post i will exlain what are the three points of views that can be used for writing a story

First person point of view: The first person point of view is used when the writer gives us a perspective from a single character. This story would usually use 'I' instead of a name. It is often used when the writer wants to decribe the feelings of a character more deeply. it can also be used when the writer wants to write a biased story from the main character's perspective. An example of such a story would be the book titled "The Great Gatsby".

Second Person point of view: The second point of view is when the writer wants to bring the reader into focus. this point of view would use 'you'. i think that this point of view is most often found in instructional books such as manuals and cookbooks when the writer is directing and instructing the reader on how to do a certain thing.

Third person point of view: This point of view is when the writer does not want to stick to just one chracter and wants to be able to shift to the perspective of other chracters. This point of view woud use words such as 'he, she , her , him'. Most book use the third person point of view to be able to how what is going on from different chracters perspective. An example of this is the book 'The Gates Of Rome' where during the battle between Marius Caesar and Sulla the perspective sometimes shifted from one army commander to the other to show how the fight was affecting people in Rome and how the army in Rome felt as well as to how what was going on outside of Rome.

Segregation of Negroes in America

Note: This America is not the modern America that most of us know

In This blog post i will explain what is Segregation.

Segregation was also another way in which the whites mistreated the Negroes but is definetely less cruel than lynching. First of all, Segregation means that the blacks had to use a different set of utilities from the whites as well as other facilities like toilets and schools. The whites were usually given the better utilities and facilities while the black were left with what the whites thought was not fit for them and only fit for African Americans. This meant that the Negroes had all the second rate things such as wooden houses instead of solid houses.
The idea of giving blacks their own facilites was introduced because it was decided that the blacks should be treated more fairly than the way they were treated now but because of the way the whites hated the Negroes it became a way to mistreat the African Americans by giving them the lousier things.

Lynching of Negroes in America

Note: The America is not the mordern America that most of us know.
First of all i will explain what is lynching.

Lynching is when an illegal execution of a Negro is carried out. Some examples of lynching is when the Ku Klux Klan attacked Negroes and after beating them up very badly used a length of rope to attached to a high branch in a tree and hang the unfortunate black. However, most of the time the police did not stop these illegal executions because most of them also dislike the African Americans and thus pretended not to notice and allowed the Negroes to die. Another example is where a young male Negro was about to be lynched and his mother came out to prevent it but the whites also lynched her beside her son.
Whites usually lynched Negroes when the whites felt that the black had committed something unforgivable in their eyes such as kissing a white girl. If any whites saw this, the Negro would usually be lynched.

Personal Response: Which To Kill A Mockingbird Character did i like best

The character that i liked the best in the book was Atticus Finch. I like him the best because of his character and the way he handles situations. For example, he wanted to protect an African American in the court because he felt that someone should help him because all the other lawyers did not want to defend him because he was a black. When the whites in Maycomb County heard that Atticus was defending the Negro most of the whites were disgusted and called him a n*gger-lover. However, Atticus stood up for his belief that everyone should be treated and even though he was taunted for what he was doing he still wanted to defend the African American because of his belief. Atticus was also very humble because even though he was the best shot in Maycomb County he never told his children and never boasted about his skill to other people. This is the reason why i like him more than the other characters in To Kill A Mockingbird.

The Ending of the Novel (Drumroll)

The ending of the novel with Bob ewell trying to kill Scout and Jem did not surprise me as before this attack i already knew that Bob would try to attack either Atticus or his childrenbecause of the threat he made to the family. However, i wuold have ended the novel differently. After Boo Radley saved the children and Scut reflecting on not thanking Boo Radley for the gifts, I would have moved forward in time to where Scout was a parent and show her playing with her children before ending the story with her watching her children playing with each other and her thinking back to when she was a child.

what does it mean to put yourself in someone's shoes?

The phrase to put yourself in someone's shoes means to think like that person an to snyc with his character and his emotions about situations about what is happening around him. For example when someone has a traumatic experience, a friend may try to walk in the person's shoes so that he would be able to comfort the person better.
Some personal qualities that a person would need to sucessfully walk in the person's shoes is to be an emphatatic person able to feel other people's emotions.

In the courtroom i emphatized with Tom Robinson the most

I emphatized with Tom Robinson the most because i thought that they were treating him very unfairly just because all the white americans were prejudiced against african americans. This led to the prosecutor asking unfair questions and Tom Robinson being unable to stat what really happened because he was scared of what the white americans would do to him. An example was because he could not say that he felt sorry for Mayella because she was a white. Furthermore, the worst thing that happened to Tom Robinson in that court was that even though it was proved that Tom was innocent or anything except for feeling sorry for her the jury still voted him guilty. This was a horrible act as he was guilty jusst because of his skin colour.

A situation in which one person might judge another incorrectly.

A person may judge another person incorrectly when the person has physical disabilities which may cause the first person to instantly dislike the other. An example would be where one erson meets a person which has a dark skin colour the first person might not like the second person because they do not like other people with different skin colour from them. Although the second person may also have traits which may cause people to rightly dislike them such as not knowning when to stop irritating people.

What I think is involved in making a fair judgement about a person or Situation

First of all, I think that when we first meet a person we shuld not become prejudiced against him or her because of their physical appearance or because of any disabilities that they may have.
After that, we should not make a judgement on them based on the first impression they give you. For example, you could see a new classmate htting someone and chasing them away and you might think that he is a bully. But what you may not see is another classmate that the new classmate was protecting from the bully.
I think that we can only be able to make a fair judgement on someone after knowing them for a period of time e.g six months because this allows us to see every side of their chracter allowing us to make a fair judgement on them.

Personal Response: What childhood memories come to mind as i read about Scout's experience

When I read about Scout's experiences, I remembered one experience where my friends from kindergarden came over to my house and we went to the neighbourhood park where we roleplayed some characters from children shows such as spongebob squarepants and scooby-doo. I was reminded of this childhood experience when i read the part where Scout Jem and Dill roleplaying the Radley family because they were very curious about Boo Radley ho they thought was a monster.

Photo description

It was a hot sweltering afternoon with white fluffy clouds drifting along the bright blue sky. On the beach, there was a still yellow boat with the words Rent-A-Boat printed in blue on the boat's side. In front of the boat, sunlight was glinting off the smooth claer water with tiny waves travelling along the ocean's surface. There was also an island in the distance, with greenery populating the entire island.

Storyboard for Singaporean story narrative

a comic strip!

1a. The first picture which shows Mr. Lee Kuan Yew giving a speech about racial harmony in 1963 after the merger. This picture shows that Lee Kuan Yew was trying to make Singapore have racial harmony.

The second picture shows the racial riots during the Prophet Mohammad's birthday where the racial tensions between the Chinese and Malay. It shows that even though Singapore was trying to achieve racial harmony, there were many difficulties between the different races.

The third picture shows racial discrimination without violence. the picture shows a group of white eggs and a brown egg who has been separated from the crowd because the white eggs do not like the egg that is different.

The fourth picture is almost all the races in Singapore embracing each other. This shows that now Singapore is a country with racial harmony.

This comic strip panel shows the main parts of the story narrative where racial harmony is being introduced all the way to racial harmony. This would show that Singapore is a multi-racial country and it would contribute to my narrative theme of all the races in Singapore living together and helping each other

Prejudice

Prejudice is when people do not like another race or religon etc. for example, in the early and mid 20th century, the white abused african-americans because the white people did not like their skin colour. Another example is when the Jews were killed and humiliated during world of war two in Germany because Adolf Hitler did not like Jews and wanted to kill all of the Jews in his country.

What i want to learn more about prejudice is why people dislike another race or religon because the people who are abusing the others do not have a rational reason o dislike other races. For example, the white people who were abusing the black people did not have a rational reason to dislike the colour of their skin.
